Siyanda Shazi

I am an artist born in KwaZulu-Natal in a township called Umlazi. I currently reside in Cape Town as I complete my Diploma in Photography at Cape Peninsula University of Technology, which I’m on the final year. I have always loved storytelling and being around people magically gives me a sense of extension. I believe myself to be a creative by nature. I have been creating visual content for almost five years now. During my studies, I have registered a company called leye Media, we produce high quality photo and video content for local brands and businesses. My passion lies in elevating the nature in how photography is viewed and consumed in our society. I also believe it to be a tool to advance the experience of modern day digital people.

As a photographer and creative, entrepreneurship is a big part of putting your work out there to the audience. I have always been proactive towards learning new industry insights and equipping myself further with digital media and social media skills.

One of my highlights was the #NothingForUsWithoutUs movement which televised my work on ENCA in June 16th 2020 for Youth Day. I have also been fortunate to be part of the Caliber Group SA and City of Cape Town and completed courses in Social Media Marketing for Creatives at Do Digital Academy. We also currently held an Exhibition at Civic Centre as part of the graduation journey with ORMS Cape Town School of Photography in partnership with City of Cape Town. Obtaining a certificate in Entrepreneurship in Emerging Economies at Havard University with Crossroad Emerging Leaders Program was also one of my career highlights. I am also a Tutor in the Faculty for film and photography first year students.

On a personal level, I create art to empower and inspire people. My work aims to celebrate everyone in a majestic way, and so the marginalized and the minority get a chance to view and be part of the visual content. Inclusion and opportunity for every person to realize the beauty of their potential. With my work, I win smiles and honor because everyone loves seeing their vision come to life in the most aesthetic and soul fulfilling manner.
