At just 25 years old Holly Rey has received multiple nominations and won highly coveted awards as a Recording Artist. As a Record Label Executive, who owns and runs Rey Music Pty Ltd, she has managed to hold her own in a Male Dominated and Major Record Label led industry as one of the Top 30 Record Labels in South Africa owning a respectable percentage of radio play on the South African Radio Airwaves. In 2019 she sat amongst the Top 10 Recording Artists and the top performing record labels and she has continued to maintain her success throughout the lockdowns of 2020 and 2021. Holly Rey used the ban on live performances and events as an  opportunity to put her BA Honours Cum Laude in Media and Contemporary Culture Studies to good use. She created two original online lifestyle series and was awarded funding by the National Film and Television Foundation to create a full production of the series “Baking With The Rey’s” which she created with her little sister Mimi Rey.

Tell us something about yourself that nobody knows?
I took part in the Swazi Reed Dance when I was 13. I went home with a friend from boarding school and her father worked in the palace so we went to the event with him and I joined in.

What tips can you share that have helped to shape your career?
Build a team of people that know and understand your vision. Stay loyal to people who support you. Don’t let opportunities define your character as an artist, always stay true to yourself in the choices that you make. Consistency and dependability are incredibly important in building a long lasting career in the industry.

Best gig/performance been a part of.
That’s a hard one because I have been a part of so many incredible experiences through live music. I would have to say that one of my favourites would be getting to share the stage with the legendary Mohatella Queens alongside, HHP and PJ Powers at the age of 15 was perhaps my most memorable experience as a young musician.

Advice you would give to your 18 year old self in one sentence?
Avoid excess and always appreciate the little things.

Best advice you were given when you started out?
This is a marathon, not a sprint, you need to build endurance and stay the course.
