How to: Here Are 8 Steps To Create An Artist Profile/ Biography

For all the up and coming artists, we list 8 steps you can implement to make your artist profile and biography pop and catch the right eyes. Our ‘How To’ weekly piece are a step-by-step guide on how to flourish in the music and entertainment space.

We kick it off with the basics, every professional needs a profile, a document that highlights your career and tells the clients a little more about yourself. In the music and entertainment industry, profiles and biographies are used almost every day. You need a profile to pitch to brands, media, Television, radio, to enter the awards and to upload your music onto digital streaming platforms, just to name a few reasons.

Check out our step-by-step guide on how to compile a kick-ass profile/bio:

Step 1: Background

Start by introducing yourself, tell us who you are, where you are from, why and how you got in the field that you are in. Include fun facts about yourself, make it fun and interesting.

Step 2: Career Highlights

Write about the best moments in your career, new milestones that you have reached, whether it is reaching 5K monthly listeners on Spotify or sharing the same stage as one of you favourite artists.

Step 3: Your Work

Highlight the work you have done thus far, add artworks, names, and features. Credit the people who need to be credited but keep yourself as the centre of this piece of document.

Step 4: Quote

Quote yourself, make it original and meaningful, make sure you use quotation marks.

Step 5: social media handles

Close it off with your social media handles, make sure they are correct and indicate the social platform for each handle, be sure to add your website address if you have one.

Step 6: Proofread and spell check

Read your profile/bio at least three times over to ensure that there are no spelling or grammar mistakes, get a friend to go over it as well.

Step 7: Aesthetic

Once you are done proofreading, add some colour, images of yourself, logos, and symbols etc. Make sure that your profile/ bio matches your brand, do not overdo it, keep it simple.

Step 8: Up to date

Lastly, make sure your profile/bio is always up to date, keep adding to your work and highlights as opportunities grow.
