Comedy group, Ikorodu Bois don’t let budget hold them back!

If you haven’t yet heard of the dynamic Nigerian comedy group, the Ikorodu Bois, it’s only a matter of time before they make it onto your radar! These innovative, resourceful young creatives are making waves across Africa – and beyond – by recreating popular music videos and movie trailers on a shoe-string budget – and everyone who watches these re-creations cannot believe the accuracy!

The Ikorodu Bois is made up of a group of brothers and their cousin from (you guessed it) the large city of Ikorodu, all of whom have a passion for the film and music industry. Since they began their work, the boys have managed to rack up over 46,000 subscribers on YouTube, 1.1 million followers on Instagram, and almost 90,000 likes on Facebook.

What’s even more impressive is the fact that they recently managed to get the attention of Netflix, following the release of their creative take on the trailer for Extraction in June 2020. Just two months later, the streaming giant gifted the group a generous package of professional filmmaking equipment.

In April 2021, Netflix also announced plans to feature the Ikorodu Bois in its Oscar Weekend Film Brand Campaign.

According to the press release, “Netflix’s wide reach has woken up a new generation of global film fans, allowing them to discover more diverse perspectives, see themselves reflected and inspiring new forms of movie-love. Once a year, the Oscars pierce the culture and put movies on our collective minds, and this year, we are putting the spotlight on the Ikorodu Bois to remind movie fans that fans are the most important part of the movies. The year 2020/21 has been a weird and wonderful year for films and film lovers and our films brought joy and hope to the industry, and more importantly, to fans. In seeing the Ikorodu Bois channel their creativity into remakes/tributes of their favourite movies, we see the joy of being a fan.”

The campaign is sure to provide the Ikorodu Bois with maximum exposure, allowing them to continue doing what they do best, and perhaps reach even higher as they gradually mould their careers within the industry. It’s safe to say that this group of boys is a prime example of how success is attainable regardless of circumstances, as long as you’re letting your passion and creativity take the lead!

“We love movies because they give us the inspiration we need, put us in the best mood, and allow us to get a glimpse into the lives of amazing people. And the reason why we do what we do is for the love of movies. And we want to show the world that things can be achieved with the use of ‘little stuffs’” ~ The Ikorodu Bois’ Babatunde Sanni.
