Q&A with Chad
Tell us a bit about yourself and what your average day looks like.
I am a music lover, music maker and a lover of all things entertainment. My average day starts at 6:30am with my morning routine, which includes some reading, some meditation and a workout. Then I head into the running of my business, Stereotype Talent Management and into some work on some personal campaigns and ventures. I then head to do my radio show, Saaiman Says on Good Hope FM from 6-9pm.
How did your journey in the music industry begin?
It started with me writing for R&B Star Loyiso Bala, from that point onwards things took off into me embarking on a solo career, as well as with The Black Ties, the band that I am in.
What are some of your career highlights?
Touring London, playing the Cape Town International Jazz Festival, having a career for 15 years, and for getting through the pandemic!
Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know.
I love cooking.
What is the best part of your job?
The joy I can bring with music and moments.
Where do you find inspiration for your music?
Everywhere! I do my best to stay aware and open to finding a story in anything. Generally, I write about my personal life and thoughts. My latest single, Peachy, is one that’s close to me.
What makes African music so unique to any other place? And how can we bring this music to the rest of the world?
African music has that sauce, that energy, that je ne sais quoi. It’s special. I think more collaboration within the continent, more love for each other. I do know that the entire music industry is looking our way right now.
With FAME Week Africa being hosted in the Mother City, what do you love about Cape Town?
Cape Town is a beautiful city with many many hidden gems, and even in the places that people don’t get to see, like in the communities for example, there is a lot of heart and lot of soul. Music and Food are love languages in these spaces, and they’re just as wonderful as the incredible scenery in Cape Town.
